GALWAY 2020
"European Capital of Culture" is not a festival, it is much more. Galway 2020 is the culmination of decades of artistic effort and investment in the culture of this city. It is the culmination of everything that has gone before and a springboard into a future with a better cultural infrastructure and increased awareness and appreciation for the role of culture and cultural actors in society.
This year is intended to provide locals with extraordinary opportunities to create and participate in something that surpasses their wildest expectations.
The program is an ode to the city of Galway, its islands, its county, its language and to its own people: it shows the diversity and the high level of local and national artists and cultural organizations who want to change the city and its region in a forward-looking way, together with outstanding European and international art - and cultural actors.

Due to the Corona pandemic, the European Union has accepted the proposal to extend the duration of the current European Capitals of Culture Rijeka (Croatia) and Galway (Ireland) until April 2021 !
