The city in the Belgian Wallonia region has opened five new cultural spots in 2015 but the Capital of Culture furthermore wanted to initiate especially social and economic developments: Increase pride of the people, improve the cultural infrastructure and appeal to investors.
Mons wants to maintain the impetus of the year of the European Capital of Culture to ensure continuity and attractiveness of culture also in the future:

Now Mons sets the goal to make cultural developments sustainable - with the idea of a biennial, on a path nearby Lille already successfully precedes.
Furthermore Mons produced as a site for digital media several international projects, some of which will be seen until 2020 in the city.
