RIJEKA 2020

With the project "European Capital of Culture 2020", Rijeka and Croatia want to position themselves on the European map as a cultural travel destination by presenting "Rijeka2020" as a city, region and country and thus as a national project to Europe: As the European Capital of Culture, Rijeka 2020 brings together 29 cities and municipalities in the Croatian coastal and mountainous county (Primorje-Gorski Kotar County) and 129 partners within the EU.
By 2020, Croatia will be the first country in the history of the European Union to hold the Presidency of the Council of Europe and be the European Capital of Culture at the same time.
In addition to new infrastructure and a number of cultural institutions (Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Municipal Library, Children's House, Museum of the City of Rijeka, RiHub Cultural Center, Galeb Museum Ship), the cultural program of Rijeka 2020 will highlight current European cultural and social issues. The three main themes of the program - water, labor and migration - have been chosen as symbols of the interdependence of Rijeka and today's Europe.
